New England Bay300compThe trip from Bushmills to Larne was uneventful and after another good crossing we landed back in Scotland with a 13 mile drive to the Caravan Clubs New England Bay site.

What a lovely site, mainly grass pitches across 15 acres in different areas and we were lucky enough to secure pitch 141, right at the front of the site looking directly across the bay and a 30 second walk off the beach! 7 nights for £145 in such a fantastic beach front location – what a bargain.

Well until Monday night when gale force winds came across the Irish Sea and fully tested our new awning as the van was buffeted to such an extent you felt you were at sea in raging storm as it swayed and shook and the awning rattled and groaned. Perhaps we should have pitched in a more sheltered spot? The site has more rabbits than CC members staying on site and where ever you look you will see them keeping the grass trimmed!

At face value the area doesn’t offer a great deal but on closer inspection you will find Port Patrick, Port Logan, the renowned Botanical Gardens and of course the Mull of Galloway. It’s a place to relax and take life slowly which is exactly what we did.

The weather improved as the week went on and meant days on the beach either just at the site on in quieter locations at Ardwell Bay could be fully enjoyed.

All too quickly it was time to pack up again and head home.
