Muirfield Loses Golf Open
#1
Muirfield has been told it will not stage another Open Championship as long as it continues to bar women golfers from becoming members.

The Scottish golf club announced on Thursday that its members had voted against allowing women to join.

Governing body the R&A said it would not stage the Open "at a venue that does not admit women as members".

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Muirfield's stance was "simply indefensible".

I don't often agree with Scotland's First Minister but I'll make an exception on this occasion.

Muirfield is a private members club and according to the report the democratic process of the club has taken place and the members have decided their future.
Just to bring some balance there are a number of ladies clubs that don't except male golfers

I'm not a golfer myself but I do like watching the majors (sadly no longer possible, thank you, Sky!).

Wasn't there talk last year of a woman possibly qualifying to play in The Open - was it Michelle Wii? or have I just imagined that (quite possible.)

Anyway, my point is, what would be the situation if a woman did qualify to play and the tournament was being held at Muirfield?
You don't have to a have a dog in your life - but it certainly helps!

Dinosaurs, high profile ones! No room in today's world for discrimination of any kind.

That's just as bad in my view.

Like male professionals of the old days who weren't allowed into club houses, (Harry Vardon et al) they would have to change in the car park.  Most male club members who don't have lockers usually get changed in the car park.

I don't like discrimination which ever way it's directed. However if that is what Muirfield members have decided to do then they will have to miss out on all the benefits that hosting the open may bring them.

I agree with the R&A's stance

Rapidly becoming known as "Jurassic Park" on social media! Golf Clubs are a total bastion of class ridden misogyny in my experience!
