'Bastion of class' isn't the description I would use for my club. On Sunday I am playing with an NHS hospital porter, an environmental agency worker and a small guest house owner

My golf club isn't either - the food half of our clubhouse is more reminiscent of a transport caff! No golf shoes allowed inside, but you can knock on the window & be served if you want to sit outside, & the food is excellent. Nice bar/toilets/snooker room/huge tv screen, & full of friendly people from all walks of life + my kind of club.

My apologies, I am sure there are some nice Clubs. The ones around us unfortunately aren't, and trying to work with them in terms of encouraging them to help provide assistance to schools and local youngsters was like getting blood out of a stone!
Have you seen how much a round costs at Muirfield by the way!
In our home, dog fur is a fashion accessory! It's also a condiment.......

Our golf club professional gives lessons to school children which is paid for by the club. I think our junior members only pay about £50/year for membership
No idea on fees for Muirfield but I expect you could only join by invitation!

Muirfield: £220 for one round.......that's even worse than Royal Lytham!
Peter Alliss apparently came out in favour of women NOT being allowed to join, but the worst for me was that many members voted against because "women would play too slowly and also ruin lunch." Ruin lunch?? Honestly!

Surely they'd be expected to cook the lunch before going out to play?!!
(OK, I'll get me coat!)
You don't have to a have a dog in your life - but it certainly helps!

Similar price then as a day on one of the less expensive Scottish Salmon rivers.
