State of Italian Bridges - worrying pictures
#1
A friend on Facebook has posted the following pictures, taken recently on a motorhome trip to Italy, and they show worrying 'concrete' cancer in the structure of a bridge on the E717 - Turin to Savona.

The Local-IT has an article about the state of many Italian bridges,

After the recent Genoa viaduct collapse I think I would be planning my route through Italy with care!

It looks like the steel reinforcing has been placed far too close to the surface of the concrete. This would have been specified by the designers. So if that was the "standard" then all structures of a similar age are suspect. The route you plan may become very tortuous . . !

Strange isn't it that the Romans knew how to use concrete that lasted for centuries and now they have lost the ability to carry on the tradition!
