Doing Anything Interesting Today
(11-08-2024, 08:19 PM)David from Suffolk Wrote: Our farm is some 40 acres with the buildings taken of some 30 acres of fields, in the past 50 years has never had any chemical sprays on it, yet this year we have a complete lack of insects and very few butterflies. there has been some on the silver birch seed pods but very few, as for bees and wasps nothing, to add to this the oaks have no acorns this year.

I guess the very wet spring could well be the cause of it, David. I too have noticed the lack of butterflies.

All was going so well on our latest trip until last night. After a lovely warm sunny day and early evening I retired into the van about 7:00. Around 8:00 I went to switch on a light when there was a loud bang, like a gunshot, and at first we could see nothing wrong. However when I went to look outside I could see that there was a fracture in the outer membrane of our front skylight window. What caused it we have no idea but we cannot continue with our trip as it is, so have had to cancel 3 booked sites, one from each club and a CL, and return home so that our caravan dealer can fix the issue. We were due to move tomorrow to another C&CC site, so will have to pay the full cost, but thankfully we will only loose the £5 deposit at the following CC site, and we had not paid one at the CL. The dealer have already submitted a warrant claim to Swift, as the caravan is just over 2yrs old, and we will just have to wait to find out what they say. So it's homeward tomorrow, with an overnight stop, as I don't do more than about 150 mls in a day.

Yes home now, and having called in at the dealers with the van yesterday have been reassured that we can safely head off again as long as we keep an eye on the situation. So off again on Friday, heading north instead!
Hope you and John are keeping well.

Glad to hear that you both are OK. It has been much cooler today, but thankfully we haven't had any rain. Have you heard anything from AlfiesDad, Hugh or Riggers, as they no longer seem to be posting on here?

After having come home because of the fracture in our caravan's sun roof it appears that we have been very fortunate we would have been down amidst much of the bad weather while it was dry at home. We set off again on Friday, heading North instead, and apart from some rain as we drove over from our weekend half near Annan to one of our favourite sites, Beecraigs Country Park at Linlithgow, and a couple of light showers this afternoon, we have been very fortunate with the weather.
