Current lockdown and other restrictions are designed only to slow the spread. To stop the spread a national period of complete non contact with other's is required by all of us for a period of time greater than the sum of the incubation period and the length of time persons are infectious. This would be about four weeks.
Impossible to achieve due to the high percentage of the population being unable to survive for more than 36 hours without outside assistance such as someone else making their food. And I don't mean the elderly, who are actually more resourcefull and better able to work out how to do it. So the country has to instead have lesser restrictions just to let that part of the population survive; and let part of the virus survive as well.
Anyone fancy a take-away . . . ?

Harsh though it may seem, I think that all DIY outlets, Garden centres and shops other than Supermarkets, should be closed.

I think we need to close more shops that are nonessential and close a few of the loopholes, and one big push for everyone to stay at home and drastically reduce the virus ,so that this summer we might be able to get out and about with a few restrictions.

I'm sure that you are right HD, there are far too many loopholes at the moment, and far too many people who think it doesn't apply to them. The stores should not allow ANYONE into the store without a mask! If the person says they are medically exempt - Tough, they can get someone else do do their shopping for them. You either have a rule or you don't - no exceptions!

It's not that simple though, is it? What if you live alone, are new to an area, have asthma or something similar, and can't afford to buy sufficient to not incur a delivery charge?
