A question, if you are medically exempt from wearing a mask does that person have some sort of proof (doc’s letter) that they can show ,or is it just word of mouth

I do take Nellie’s point , but I am sure if anyone in this area was in that position it would take me less than five minutes to arrange for a volunteer to shop for them.
In answer to HD I think it’s mostly word of mouth and I’m sure that many are just claiming exemption. But surely it is almost irrelevant. The use of a mask is two fold, ie not just to protect the wearer but to prevent the wearer from infecting others. Therefor by saying you must allow exempt people to shop without a mask you are saying it’s OK for them to possibly affect others. The only safe way is to say if you can’t wear a mask you must not go out. Somehow alternate arrangements will have to be put in place. TF

If I am going to put my cards on the table ,then I would say no mask ,no going in shops , if some one can not wear a mask for a few minutes to go round a shop because of breathing difficulties then should they be out in the first place , if I had still got my shop my policy would have been no mask you ain’t coming in

I'm a claustrophobic asthmatic, so wearing a mask is hell for me, so I've had to adapt life around it. Main shopping is via home delivery, but we prefer fresh veg. For this I have an arrangement with a local shop. I drop in my order on the way to walk the dog and collect an hour later, so covering exercise and shopping in one journey. On both visits to the shop I don't need to enter, as when Mike sees my car he comes to the door and takes the order from me. I then walk the dog, and call in on the way home, Again as I pull up outside, he hands me the shopping, debits my contactless card, and away I go. No contact with anyone, and I don't take up space in the shop either. Of course it relies on a degree of trust to hand over my card, but that is an advantage of living in a small community. The only other shop I need is the Post Office, and I plan my visits there by having a list of what I want and make sure there is no-one in the shop so i don't have to wait, thereby wearing a mask for the absolute minimum time. It can be done, you just need to think ahead.

Emmerson,
That is exactly a prime example of how to do it! I fully accept that for a variety of reasons some people will not want to wear a mask. And you are one, but despite difficulties you have managed to come to a workable solution. Sadly too many don't try. Well done you. TF
