Public Order! Ok

I think overall the police do an excellent job considering they are having to uphold the law with one hand tied behind their back.

I must agree with Bugs. Respect must be earned; it cannot be claimed as a right and today's police need to learn that.
The smart tunic and shiny buttons went a long way to earning that respect.
A friend has a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which apparently is a much coveted breed. Walking him the other day, he was stopped by two men and told to give them the dog, or they'd stab him. They'd picked the wrong man, as he is a trained cage fighter! The villains came off much the worse, but someone had called the police.
My pal was arrested,by four aggressive officers, who didn't wait for any explanation; they just waded in. He is still awaiting the outcome. The villains were released.
I know that that is only one tale, and there are probably many good ones, but my question was where did the police officers come from? I couldn't even talk to one on the phone when my computer was hacked, and £4,500 stolen.
Sorry TF, I'm sure there are more decent coppers than bad 'uns!

I am with TF on this, but todays policing is very different to the little bit I did 20 years ago. then there was a drug scene but very small, no internet , and DNA was only found in books. The senior officers had all started as PC's and worked there way up. they in the majority had respect from all they worked with, but the whole of society has changed and the constabulary has had to change with it, many forces the largest department is internet and money fraud . Our constabulary spent more on IT consultants etc than anything else..
