Anyone been there with a caravan? I'm thinking of going in May/June and would appreciate details of personal experiences of touring the island (what to see, where to camp, what to watch out for, etc.). Getting there is not so important as my route will be different because I will be starting from Germany. I'm more interested in what to expect when I get there.

Have never been to Sardinia Lutz sounds good. We have done quite a bit of Italy though if you want some sites reviews look onto my website. Are you going to get an ACSI Card for your trip. I recommend it saves you half the sites fees on some 5* sites. Hope we can still meet up in Aprl.

It would be nice to get some first-hand reviews of touring the island. I've seen a few blogs written by motorhome owners that have been there, but any further information, especially specifically about touring with a caravan, would be more than welcome.
I doubt whether I will be leaving home before early May so we should have an opportunity to get together.

We didn't make it as far as Sardinia last year (only got to Rome), but we're thinking of giving it a second try this year, so has anyone been in the meantime?

Well, we finally made it this year.
Since arriving here, among other locations, we spent several nights at the following campsites which we can thoroughly recommend:
Agriturismo S'Ozzostru near Dorgali, (just off the SS125)
This is a CC-like site with only 6 ptiches, in a wonderful setting up in the mountains but only about 15 to 20 minutes drive from the coast at Cala Ganone. All pitches have electricity. The shower block is clean and seems to be fairly new. It is perfectly adequate for the number of pitches that there are. Because the location also offers limited hotel accommodation it also has its own restaurant where one can have breakfast or dinner.
International Camping Valledoria, in Valledoria on the northwest coast
A great campsite, right on the beach, but with about 300 piches a lot bigger than the above. Very clean and new sanitary facilities. Good restaurant. Pitch number 48 is an absolute dream. The beach is only about 10 paces away and being set a little higher, one has a wonderful unspoilt panoramic view of the coast in both directions as far as Castelsardo in one and Isola Rossa in the other, not to mention spectacular sunsets over the sea to be seen from the comfort of your own caravan.

Looks fantastic Lutz. Italy, including Sicily is my current want to go place to visit. Doubt we would do it with tourer though, probably B&B if we could. Have a lovely time.
In our home, dog fur is a fashion accessory! It's also a condiment.......

Sorry for the delay in replying, but there was so much to see and do during our trip and we didn't get back home until last night.
We took the ferry from Livorno to Olbia (Moby Ferries), but there are lots of alternative routes and carriers. Ours was just the cheapest. The connection from Genoa also seems to be very popular. We chose a night crossing there and a day crossing back. It's a 7 hour trip from Livorno.
