Ones Italian Jaunt
#1
Picked up van a little after 6.30pm on Friday 16 September in the pouring rain. I won't bore you with the journey but passed Diannes about 8.15pm where the torrential rain had cease. Train was 90 minutes late so got nearly 2 hours kip. No problems at the French end of the tunnel although lots of blue flashing lights along the fences. About 15 miles from Calais I came across about 10 immigrants walking on the A26. Stopped for 3 hours sleep on an aire in the Vosges. No hold ups until 6ks from the Gotthard tunnel which took nearly an hour to get through due to it only having one lane in each direction. The tunnel is 16.9ks long and from the North is 3540 feet high and exiting at 3760 feet on the Southern end. French tolls were in the region of 90€ and vignette for Switzerland was £64 for car and van. Arrived at Camping Ticino, Pavia in the pouring rain.

The campsite is nice with lots of shade. Marco the owner is a great host. Only one drawback is being close to the river there are quite a lot of biters!

Pavia is an interesting older town with some great architecture. It was a sometime capital of Italy. Due to the university its quite a lively spot full of young people.

Long old drive 'One', good to hear you're safely pitched. Have you another journey tomorrow or is that it now?

Lovely photo OP. Sounds like quite a long and stressful journey. Hope you can relax for the rest of the week and that the weather is kind to you.

So not in Italy for long One.

Weather OK here now 19° and dry just a bit dull. Luckily we only had wet day on Friday and early Saturday morning. Don't forget to do some reviews on here.

Whereabouts are you going in the Black Forest?

Thanks Dianne. Will do reviews. This campsite closes on 30 September so I need to give my brother time to clear up and pack as he has been here since April.
Think I will go to Wolfach then on to Coburg before heading up to the Baltic to do some bird watching.

Temperature here today 28C meant to be the same tomorrow before thunderstorms during Tuesday night.

Journey not too stressful as during daylight hours the scenery was stunning.
